Did you know that this battle took place during the month of Ramadan in March 624 CE? Even though the Muslims were outnumbered, they were victorious because of their trust in Allah. Let's journey back to the desert of Badr, where a small but brave group of Muslims faced a mighty army—and made history.

Long before the battle, Muslims in Mecca faced serious hardships. The powerful Quraysh tribe rejected the message of Islam. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions were insulted, attacked, and even forced to leave their homes.

To escape persecution, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the early Muslims migrated to Madinah. This journey, known as the Hijrah, marked the beginning of a new chapter. In Madinah, they found peace, built a supportive community, and practiced Islam freely for the first time.

Quraysh Plans for War

But peace didn’t last for long. The Quraysh still wanted to stop Islam from growing. When the Prophet ﷺ heard about a Quraysh caravan carrying wealth taken from the Muslims, he saw an opportunity to reclaim what had been unjustly taken.

The Quraysh responded by gathering a mighty army—over 1,000 men, 100 horses, and 700 camels—to confront the Muslims. The Muslims, on the other hand, had only 313 fighters, a few horses, and very limited weapons. But they had something more powerful: faith, unity, and the help of Allah.

The Prophet ﷺ led with wisdom and kindness. He always consulted with his companions, teaching us the value of teamwork and trust.

Ali (RA) showed immense bravery on the battlefield. His sword, Zulfiqar, became a symbol of strength and faith. He fought knowing that angels had been sent to support them.

Abu Bakr (RA) stood by the Prophet’s side with unwavering faith and calm wisdom.

Hamza (RA), the Prophet’s uncle, was a fearless warrior whose strength and courage lifted the spirits of all believers.

On the 17th of Ramadan, the armies met on the plains of Badr. Though the Muslims were fewer, they were strong in belief—and that made all the difference.

Before the battle, the Prophet ﷺ made heartfelt dua, asking Allah for help. Allah answered:

"Indeed, Allah assisted you at Badr when you were few in number..."
(Surah Al-Imran 3:123)

A strong wind blew against the Quraysh, angels came to support the Muslims, and the believers knew—Allah was with them.

The battle began with one-on-one duels. The Muslims fought with incredible strength and unity. Despite the odds, they started to gain the upper hand. When Abu Jahl, one of Islam’s fiercest enemies, was defeated, it shifted the momentum.

As fear spread through the Quraysh army, they began to retreat—overcome not just by the believers, but by their unshakable faith and the angels sent to help them.

This historic victory proved that faith, courage, and trust in Allah are stronger than any weapon.
